How would YOU arrest somebody who was firing an assault rifle at you? -Bystander
The general-issue assault rifle. Though one of the most powerful weapons in Deus Ex, it suffers in TNM when compared to the considerably better unique weapons, such as Trestkon's Pistols which take up half the space and do better damage. If used, the player must have the proper weapons skill or mod it heavily to use it very efficiently . Quite useless when the player has no rifle skill at all. In TNM you may want to consider not modding it at all and immediately going for Kylie's Rifle. Of course if you play a WorldCorp game, Scara won't be happy with that...
Obtaining it
Some of the firewalls carry around this weapon, and if you don't mind taking it from them, you can use that to get it early, but with very low ammo. Since it's an often used weapon by enemies, you'll find this weapon in great supply all over Forum City, so no worries that you wont be able to get it.
Description
The 7.62x51mm assault rifle is designed for close-quarters combat, utilizing a shortened barrel and 'bullpup' design for increased maneuverability. An additional underhand 20mm HE launcher increases the rifle's effectiveness against a variety of targets. It may look ridiculous, but just give it a chance, and you're gonna love it.
Usage
Hit the trigger, and don't let go until the opponent is dead. With a low skill in Rifles, you won't be able to hit anything, so don't even bother trying. Only use it when properly trained, and think about modifying it if you opt not to go for Kylie's gun. At lower difficulties, with Master Rifle skill you should be able to use a single burst of 3 bullets to headshot-kill enemies, making this an extremely dangerous weapon indeed. With a silencer attached, the assault rifle is utterly unstoppable.
