STAY OUT OF DESPOT'S APARTMENT! -Ghandaiah

Despot's Apartment, or Despot's Dungeon, is the residence of Forum's City admin, Despot. It's designed in a medieval style reminiscent of games like Doom and contains a few puzzles and combat events. It serves as the heavily scripted horror equivalent to the Old Server Complex for WorldCorp players.

Traps

Compared to the OSC, Despot's Apartment isn't all that difficult, with the exception of one trap.

  • Walls blowing up. Be careful!
  • Squicky pond. Best get out of there fast, before the walls crush you.
  • Room with Karkian: You can completely avoid this fight by getting out of that room after using the lever before the doors close. It doesn't matter too much though since it seems the Karkian isn't in the mood for fighting, so save your ammo and use melee weapons to finish it. Then use the lever to open the doors. Note: With the lowest enemy quantity a baby Karkian will be present instead, and that one does attack!
  • Blades of doom. Most players seem to have difficulty with this one. The two most common ways to pass this one safely are:
    • Hug the wall, then side-step when the blade has just passed.
    • Stand close to the wall, facing the blades. When it passes by away from you, quickly move forward a bit.
  • Illusion #1: You suddenly get transported to a room with many red eyes watching you. It passes on its own eventually.
  • Karkians: Several smaller Karkians await you.
  • Illusion #2: You get sucked towards a pit of flaming lava. Time your jump carefully. There's assault rifle ammo here.

Characters

Narcissus Playthrough

Even though entering and exploring Despot's Apartment is a WorldCorp mission, you are also allowed to go through it without being allied to them by using the computer login you get in the WorldCorp storyline. In that case, That Guy's PMs are replaced with versions from The Narcissus Entity, commenting to Trestkon how it can be that he wanders there without being able to do so because the necessary information "hasn't been inserted into this branch of reality."

This allows PDX players to gain some advantages, like an additional Augmentation Canister and Augmentation Upgrade Canister, compared to their normal game.

Do note that in the current version (1.0.2), doing a Narcissus playthrough can lead to several serious issues, including not being able to complete the game at all! To be on the safe side, do not talk to Despot as this can trigger a WC storyline goal, potentially breaking the game. It's also best not to enter Despot's Apartment before you're supposed to if you plan to join WorldCorp, as you'll be skipping a lot of content.
