The fists are a last resort, so you generally don't wanna be too up-front when you punch a guy, try to whack him over the back of the head while he's not looking or something. -Phasmatis

Fists are made out of hands, hands are the things at the end of your arms (the non-shoulder ends). If you're lucky, your hands have fingers on them. Ball up your fingers and you'll make a fist.

In The Nameless Mod you can use fists as a nonlethal weapon if you want to conserve ammo, have already wasted your ammo, or simply happen to be excessively cool. There is a Fists skill which will make them more effective and allow you to use gloves which increase the utility of fists as a weapon. The fists, fists skill, and gloves are all innovations of TNM. Neither fists nor gloves (after they are used the first time) take up space in inventory.

The Art of Fisting

Although the description in TNM describes the fists as a fallback and weak weapon, in the hands of a skilled player they are a force to be reckoned with. The power is hidden in the gloves, however. To upgrade your fists, find a fist upgrade and pick it up. In the inventory, select the upgrade and click the "Use" button. From now on the upgrade is available in the fist menu available by clicking on the fist icon next to the ammo and password icons. To switch fist upgrade, simply click the icon of the desired one. Contrary to weapons, gloves can be switched out instantaneously.

Going into a fight with your fists up is not a good idea though. Punches thrown at enemies aware of you usually don't have much of an effect. It takes a handful of blows to take down even the weakest guards. Things look different from behind, similar to the Baton. Sneaking up on a guard and punching on the back of the head is generally an instant non-lethal take-down, at last with weak targets. Playing with bare fists is difficult, not to say impossible, which is where the gloves come into play... and the the fun starts.

Also note that TNM treats your fists like a weapon, so while you may think having your fists ready would allow you to, say, pick up a crate, you will ironically be told that your hands are full, so you will have to press the key associated with disarming yourself (put away weapon) to proceed.
