PlanetDeusEx Forum City

The world of Forum City is a representation of an internet message board. Every character you encounter was created, and is ostensibly controlled, by a real world person. Because Forum City is a visual representation of an online world, there are several key differences from reality, such as the existence of moderators. Just as online message boards have people capable of banning users and generally keeping the peace, so does Forum City.

Locations

Because of the lockdown, Firewalls have blocked the major roads, and it's hard to travel around to other districts. The subway system is still accessible, and allows people with a monthly pass to travel between only three districts: the Central District, the Corporate District, and the West Residence District.

Central District

Also called downtown. This district features some shops, and a large canal.

Forum Planet

ForumPlanet is a huge computer-generated illusion created to let people meet in a virtual environment and have enlightened discussions. Somewhat like a computer game. There are many different cities on ForumPlanet, all ruled by small groups of volunteers. They're all called something with planet. When people refer to PlanetHalfLife, or PHL for short, they're talking about PlanetHalfLife Forum City, for example. Saying Forum City could pretty much mean any of the cities on the planet, but the name generally refers to the city the speaker lives in. So if you hear somebody around here saying Forum City, you can assume he means PlanetDeusEx Forum City and not PHL or PlanetHalo.

Each city is more like a city state with surrounding and often extensive countryside themed after the game on which it is based. PHL has a lot of hilly countryside with many roads good for driving around in buggies, for example. The environment around PDX Forum City consists mostly of mountains and cliffs with the occasional highway, well-guarded factory, and top-secret research complex.
