IRC
IRC, also known as Internet Relay Chat, is a chat protocol dating back to the mid-to-early 1990s designed to handle multiple users in a single room, allowing them to contribute at the same time. Users who have special access will have their names prefixed with special characters.
- ''+'' -- represents a voiced user, who may chat while the room is moderated, preventing regular users from talking
- ''@'' -- represents an operator, these users are the moderators, and in the case of #otp, are generally people who were directly involved in the mod.
Examples:
<+ChrisTheCynic> This is a preprogramed response.
<Namagem> This is a scripted response medium which is being monitored for secure information
<Hostile> This is just a recording
<Gelo> had him thinking I was a bot for a while
<@Trestkon|Modcast> Oh, are we not pretending to be bots, now?
<@Jonas> We did not put in a real IRC client to have you loons make them think it's all fake
Reality
Yes, it is real.
External Connections and Info
It was created by NVShacker and can accessed by using a computer in the mod, or typing "irc <nickname>" into the console where <nickname> is the IRC nick you desire. The same channel can be accessed by clicking here (irc.gamesurge.net channel #otp, if you don't have the irc:// protocol registered).
While using the console version, messages in the channel will appear in the upper message box on the screen (This object is too heavy to lift). You may chat using the multiplayer "say" command, which is by default bound to the "T" key.
There does exist, at one point within The Nameless Mod, a false chat, that is described as NRC. Please do not be confused with IRC, which, when connected to, in game, does connect to a real chat room with real users.
Further Examples:
<Namagem> Maybe this really ISN'T real
<Namagem> And we are all just bots
<ChrisTheCynic> Convincing someone you're a bot is something that one might do for cheap laughs, I convincing someone that they are the bot would be epic. Someday I shall attempt the second.
