JC Denton was the player character in Deus Ex. He was created for the nano-augmentation project, became the second nano-augmented UNATCO agent, and brought down MJ12.
Character History
As a part of the nano-augmentation project the Illuminati used data collected during the 1940s smallpox vaccinations to find people likely to produce offspring compatible with nano-augmentation. In 2018 Paul Denton was born to two such individuals. The conspirators observed Paul covertly and determined that he was suitable for nano-augmentation in 2023.
The Illuminati plans called for cloned siblings to be created which, in addition to being genetically identical, were produced in the same womb. To this end MJ12 scientists posing as fertility experts implanted Paul's mother with an embryonic clone of Paul in 2028. JC Denton was born nine months later, in 2029.
By 2035 MJ12 had rebelled against and overthrown the Illuminati. Bob Page, now in charge of the project, determined that Paul was not turning out right, and therefore JC should be raised in a different environment. He ordered the parents killed, deemed Paul expendable, and had JC sent to MJ12's Swiss School.
By the time JC graduated from the Swiss School in 2047 Paul was already at UNATCO. JC and Paul's adopted parents were killed sometime between Paul becoming UNATCO's first nano-augmented agent in 2050 and when JC joined UNATCO in 2051. It is likely (though not certain) that these were the parents JC believed died in a car crash.
In 2052 JC became an active nano-augmented agent.
Role in Deus Ex
Because JC is the player character many of his specific actions are variable but a general overview is possible.
JC arrived on Liberty Island for his first day of active duty it had been taken over by the NSF. He was sent in alone, apparently as a test, to capture the commander of the NSF. Then he is sent to Battery Park to retrive stolen Ambrosia. From there JC is sent to Hells Kitchens to find and destroy an NSF Generator so that Paul can attack another NSF facility.
When JC returns to UNATCO HQ he finds that Paul went AWOL and is sent to locate Ambrosia that Paul failed to retreive. He follows it to Juan Lebedev's 747 at LaGuardia. There he learns that Paul is working with the NSF. He is then sent to assassinate Tracer Tong, but his pilot, Jock, instead took him to meet with Paul.
At this point JC also turned on UNATCO, sending a signal to warn various resistance groups of a coming crackdown. His killswitch was activated and he was captured shortly after.
JC awoke in an MJ12 prison under UNATCO HQ. He then escaped with the help of Daedalus and made his way to Tracer Tong in Hong Kong. Once there he brokered a truce between the Luminous Path and Red Arrow Triads to show his loyalty. He then gathered information and destroyed a Universal Constructor on the Level 2 labs under VersaLife.
Based on the information he gathered JC destroyed a superfreighter of Gray Death. Daedalus then sent JC to Paris where he made contact with Nicolette DuClare and, with her help, Morgan Everett. Everett was able to create a cure or treatment (it is unclear which) for the Gray Death, but needed a UC to construct it. He also believed that Daedalus needed Milnet access to defeat the MJ12 AI, Icarus. To solve both of these problems he sent JC to Vandenberg Air force Base to meet with X-51.
When Daedalus acquired Milnet access he merged with Icarus to create Helios. After that happened Bob Page announced he was holding Tiffany Savage, daughter of X-51 leader Gary Savage, hostage. JC went off to rescue her and then, from there, went to MJ12's Ocean Lab to get a schematic of a part X-51 needed for their UC. MJ12 intercepted the transmission, got information they needed, and then arranged to have Vandenburg nuked.
JC redirected the nuclear missile to Area 51, after which he defeated MJ12 once and for all by doing ... something. Threw the world into a Dark Age, merged with an AI, or joined the Illuminati; take your pick.
