Fictional magazines

Arcadia

Arcadia is a religious magazine that deals with news and debates concerning the major religions in Forum City, most prominently The Llama Cult and The Goat Cult.

  • Man arrested in "Llama Falsehoods" Case
  • Letters To The Editor
  • Religion Overview – The Goats

DXO

DXO is the propagandistic revolutionary magazine of the DeusEx.Org terrorist group. Since DXO is more busy planning their illegal operations and avoiding the law than working on their magazine, it's published very rarely and infrequently, and only very few copies of it can be found around Forum City.

  • Voice of the People

Invest!

Invest! is a financial magazine the most recent cover of which features Scara B. King. Its articles include information about the stock exchange as well as news from the world of business.

  • Cutter Nuclear 2nd reactor
  • Luminous Research bought by WC
  • September's Stock Listings
  • WorldCorp's quarterly earnings

Parallel Universes

Parallel Universes deals with supernatural phenomena and cultural extremes, and noteably features a lifestyle piece about a person with extreme physical modifications.

  • Living with bio-modification pt. 1
  • Living with bio-modification pt. 2
  • Living with bio-modification pt. 3
  • Editorial
  • MIBs

Technology Today

Technology Today is a science magazine that chiefly deals with recent advances in technology (as the name suggests). Its articles feature a series of news stories about a nuclear meltdown in another Forum City, as well as an article comparing the two different camera systems in use around PDX Forum City.

  • "Solera" processor released
  • Explosion rocks Micronesia
  • Micronesia core burning out of control
  • Fourth Micronesia reactor goes critical
  • Micronesia reactor 4 contained
  • SG urges caution on genetic modification
  • Alan Milton security camera interview (img)
  • IRC User Guide
  • Review: Datascreen

The Pulse

An underground magazine, The Pulse skirts the edges of legality and is usually found stashed away in toilet stalls or tossed at subway stations. Its articles include a "word on the street"-style piece about Ryan, as well as various questionable reviews of night clubs or advertisements for drugs.

  • New drug sweeps dance community
  • TuRbO synthesization
  • Club Grind and Psycho Reviews

Real magazines

PC Gamer (UK)

PC Gamer is the only magazine in The Nameless Mod which actually exists. The cover which appears in the game (featuring The Nameless Mod) is made up, but the real magazine's logo was used with permission from the editor in chief at the time of development. The magazine's articles are of course all about PC games, including the full version of PC Gamer's original Deus Ex review by Kieron Gillen (which can also be read on Gillen's blog) and Richard Cobbett's article "Atavism vs. Altruism" (which can also be read on Cobbett's blog). Breakout Strategy Guide was written specifically for The Nameless Mod, but How to mess up... and Puzzles vs. Problems were taken from Jonas Wæver's blog.

From the inclusion of Gillen's Deus Ex review, it's clear that the PC Gamer version featured in TNM is the British one - however, the logo on the front page is unfortunately from the US version of the magazine.

  • Deus Ex
  • How to mess up a classic franchise with a pretty good game
  • Editorial: Puzzles vs. Problems
  • Breakout Strategy Guide
  • Open letter: Atavism vs. Altruism
