Planetization

Planetization is the process initiated by GameSpy of turning a community into a Forum City. For many of the citizens of DXI, it proved to be catastrophic, resulting in the destruction of DXI, the death of many citizens, including DXI's admin Gwog, and the deformation of Despot.

The player first hears about planetization from Gwog. However, due to his condition, he is unable to give much detail about it, only telling the player that "it was when we joined GameSpy", that many of the original moderators were killed, and that only "scores of citizens survived". As the player progresses through the DXI ruins, more clues are revealed about the event. Datacubes found in DXI mention unusual seismic activity, hinting that the Planetization involved or was a massive earthquake. Another datacube reads on how "alien" GameSpy's systems are and how the potential for a fatal error during the process could result in lost accounts (ie. lives).

In the Admin room, a recorded hologram shows Digital Ronin giving a status report during the Planetization. His descriptions of how places in DXI are collapsing and falling apart, and the sounds of chaos in the background, give more support to the possibility that the Planetization involved some sort of massive earthquake.

By reading the emails in the thread control room, it is revealed that somehow, the GameSpy aliens were either partially or completely responsible for the planetization due to carelessness. The aliens seem to consider the "planetsiders" or the inhabitants of ForumPlanet unimportant - the damage they did barely mattered to them.
