Spyware
From The Nameless Mod
Spyware is an item given to the play on multiple occasions. Although the item itself has no actual value to the player it is required to beat multiple missions (including side missions). Spyware takes up a 2x1 inventory space. It functions like a landmine which can be placed on different servers. Almost all (if not all) the missions involving spyware involve espionage. The first storyline (required) mission to involve spyware occurs in the PDX storyline in which the player is asked to infiltrate WC HQ and plant the spyware on the server.
Transmission
Spyware is almost certainly a remote controlled device. The location of the device is either predetermined or setup when the player uses a multitool. In WC HQ the player (Trestkon) must not only place the device but disable a security field. The player is told that this must be done because it will otherwise make it impossible for the device to transmit. The signal of the device is obviously meant to seem quite strong as it can (according to the DXO informant who gives you the side mission) penetrate the layers and layers of rock between DXI and the new city. Other than this little more can be guessed about the device's transmission methods.
Extraction
There isn't a whole lot of information about the extraction methods of the device. The player is never really informed of it's workings. Due to the fact that in both missions (above) the player must place the device on vulnerable (showing) wires or data storage spaces, we can guess that the device works somehow through them. Either intercepting data that passes by it or querrying through that direct contact the information that the receiving computer chooses.
Activation
Activation of the device is pretty straight forward, just use a multitool on it. In the item's description it says "just connect a few wires with a multitool" So we can assume that most of the device is already setup for use when the player recieves it. The multitool likely is meant to be a simple flip of a switch. It could also be used to manipulate it's unique technology in being able to manipulate electronics (like electronic control pannels)
