Xbox 360 (TNM)
From The Nameless Mod
The Xbox 360 in TNM is sort of an anachronism; the console was not available when the game took place, and is labeled DVD Player on the HUD when you point at it. It does not look exactly like a real Xbox 360, but it borrows several design elements from one, most notably being white, where very few, if any actual DVD players are white. Most consumer electronics from this decade are black or silver; seemingly only the Nintendo Wii and the Xbox 360 itself are white.
Additionally, several Xbox games are present in the game, starting with Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, seen in Phasmatis' Apartment, with no Xbox consoles seen. The Xbox 360 is partially backwards-compatible, and this game is one of hundreds that are, though it has yet to be determined if all of the Xbox games seen in TNM are compatible with the newer console.
Arguments against ("It is not an Xbox 360")
- It specifically says "DVD Player" when you point at it.
- The Xbox 360 was not on the market when TNM takes place.
- It does not look exactly like an Xbox 360.
- It serves no purpose in the game (i.e. you can never play one).
- No peripherals (e.g. gamepads) are shown.
Arguments for ("It is an Xbox 360")
- It strongly resembles an Xbox 360.
- It's white, and no or very few actual DVD players are white.
- There are numerous Xbox games littered around Forum City.
- Deus Ex 3 will presumably be on the Xbox 360, since Invisible War was on the first Xbox, so Forum City residents, being Deus Ex fans, would presumably own one or want to own one. (It most likely will also be on the PlayStation 3 and of course the PC, but that is entirely beside the point.)
- It would not be the only anachronism in Forum City in the slightest.
Developer's note: We have previously stated that we don't care about anachronisms external to the plot, such as posters of films and games that were not released in 2004. The internal timeline in TNM does not fit very well within a real world timeline. --Jonas 21:52, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
